Child Abuse Summit: Tips from the Team will increase providers’ and professionals’ comfort level in identifying and treating cases of child and family maltreatment as well as in the multidisciplinary response from investigation through prosecution.
Child Abuse Summit: Tips from the Team is designed to provide medical and professionals from all disciplines with the knowledge, tools, and skills needed to properly identify and respond to all types of child and family maltreatment including physical abuse, sexual abuse, and/or neglect. These professionals will have the opportunity to learn about child and family maltreatment within the context of a multidisciplinary team response.

Who: The anticipated audience for this activity includes physicians, nurses, pathologists, law enforcement, attorneys, social workers, CPS workers, emergency department personnel and first responders, and all other related professionals.
Wednesday Evening Pre-Conference – Pediatric Sexual Assault Case Review

In the preceding decade numerous advancements have been made in the arena of evaluating children for concerns of sexual abuse which has placed many more tools in the toolkit for healthcare professionals performing these examinations. Throughout the case studies and image review, the learner will be exposed to: varying presentations that cloak child sexual abuse, appearance of genital structures in children, the appearance of traumatic genital findings as well as non-traumatic findings that may mimic abuse. In addition, the learner will be given tools from the laboratory that can greatly impact the overall impression when evaluating a child for sexual abuse. The interactive case study and image review will assist the learner in what they might do if they were walking in the shoes of the responsible medical provider.
