Electronic Medical Records: What Are the Implications for Your SANE Program?

Recent  healthcare legislation has provided incentives for providers and hospitals to adopt Electronic Medical records (EMR).  Concern for indiscriminate access has many SANEs adamantly opposed to including the SANE report in the medical record.  There has been heated debate over whether the SANE report is a medical record or a forensic record, and whether it needs to be housed with the rest of the medical data.  The electronic format can also help guide the SANE exam and offer prompts for the exam and documentation of findings.  There are also additional benefits of data extraction with electronic records.  This session is designed to decrease anxiety regarding EMRs.

Second Hour will be a slide review of injuries and discussion about injury documentation.
