Wednesday Evening Pre-Conference – Pediatric Sexual Assault Case Review
April 25, 2018
5:00 – 7:00 pm
Wilf Family Center, University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital, Minneapolis, MN

In the preceding decade numerous advancements have been made in the arena of evaluating children for concerns of sexual abuse which has placed many more tools in the toolkit for healthcare professionals performing these examinations. Throughout the case studies and image review, the learner will be exposed to: varying presentations that cloak child sexual abuse, appearance of genital structures in children, the appearance of traumatic genital findings as well as non-traumatic findings that may mimic abuse. In addition, the learner will be given tools from the laboratory that can greatly impact the overall impression when evaluating a child for sexual abuse. The interactive case study and image review will assist the learner in what they might do if they were walking in the shoes of the responsible medical provider.

She has worked at a few of the local sex offender treatment programs in her career and has extensive experience running group therapy for all types of male sexual offenders. She has also focused her private practice in St. Louis Park to the treatment of individuals with Out of Control Sexual Behaviors (“sex addicts”) and those who have had issues with non-consensual sexual behaviors and/or thoughts, among typical mental health concerns. Helping individuals with these sexuality concerning behaviors learn healthier modes of stress management and sexuality, and trying to help keep the community safe through this learning process, is what drives Jessica to continue to work with this population.
